Thoughts For January 21

I started keeping this website because I want a place to put a lot of tech-related thoughts. I have always written on paper, and I tend to ramble a lot. I don’t know that I have ever thought the Internet was an appropriate place to put most of my thoughts, especially not if I expect to use this place as a foundation for professional portfolio work.

This site takes on a slightly different life than a professional portfolio. It’s not going to be sterile and clean, it’s going to be a living place, I’m going to make jokes, I’m going to post things that may be incomplete or inconsistent. This is a project for getting in the habit of keeping thoughts that may or may not worth publishing.

Catbro is just a domain I came up with on the fly. My image is a cat and he’s a bro. So I am catbro. Simple as that.

Most of this content is going to be tech-related or tech-adjacent, but I also imagine I will post about music and anime too. These are my strongest interests, I’ve been studying Japanese as well. I’m a typical 21st century technerd in all of those regards, but it’s an identity I think I can embrace.

Lately, I’ve been playing a lot of the Steins;Gate VNs. I finished Steins;Gate at the end of last year and immediately started on Steins;Gate 0. Both visual novels are amazing exposition on time travel, but also so much more than that. The nature of thoughts and emotions, if we were capable of time travel would such things cross temporal boundaries that don’t normally get crossed? Could someone who you’ve never met in a specific worldline still have a very strong connection with you in many others and that influences the current worldline? Those are all super vague hypotheticals, but the real interesting moments in the Steins;Gate series are the depth of character development. Each character has such a rich personality and history, it’s refreshing to follow along with them every time I pick it up. Right now I am playing through Linear Bounded Phenogram, it has a ton of backstory and shows the internal monologue of characters that aren’t the main character.
